T-Shirt Quilt #2
Started in November 2016 and finished by Christmas.
This t-shirt quilt is my brother’s. After making my first t-shirt quilt, I was motivated to keep sewing and like me, my brother had plenty of extra cotton t-shirts. To minimize curling edges, I washed the t-shirts before cutting out the logos and then ironing on fusible cotton interfacing. Knowing that I cut too close to the logos of my first t-shirt quilt, I wanted to leave myself ample room on all sides of the logo. While it was good to be conscious of having this buffer, I definitely over thought it. I wanted to cut out consistently sized quilt squares so I could easily line my quilt patches up. I measured the width and height of each logo to try to find consistencies. As you can imagine, there were a lot of similar widths or heights, but nothing that lent itself to an entire row or column. My commitment to even squares ultimately ended up in some tight squeezes but everything can be seen clearly. There was clear chronology to some of these squares, which was the primary guiding factor when laying things out. The rest of the squares were filled in considering size and colour.
What I love about this quilt is that it’s the first large project I made for someone else. Considering it is my second ever quilt, I really do like the way it turned out.
